Series of credible flags say Obama will be escalating war in Afghanistan
Edited on Thu Nov-26-09 01:22 AM by avaistheone1
1. The McClatchy Newspaper story
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/79380.html

2. The CNN story quoting a Defense Department official that preparations are already underway for the beginning of the Afghanistan escalation.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/11/24/us.afghanistan/index.htmle

3. The Christian Science Monitor story.
Sorry, I can't find the link to that one.

4. Obama announcement regarding the escalation to be made at West Point.

5. Obama Adds Afghanistan Meeting to Monday Schedule
By REUTERS
http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2009/11/23/us/politics/politics-us-afghanistan-usa-obama.html

Not only these stories, but just about every major news outlet now has leaks directly from the military that Obama is going to escalate the Afghanistan war by approximately 37,000 troops. This looks like a done deal just waiting for Obama to lip sync the words on Tuesday.

4. Obama is going to do what he said he would.....
he is going to at least try.

That's how I see it.

This ain't Iraq, and it never was.

6. Yes, it will be worse than Iraq.
Also Obama said he would listen to the people, and the people do not want this escalation.

7. A war neglected for 7 years...and you think that he should walk away ASAP?
after all that he stated on the campaign trail?

Hell, Kerry stated the same thing in 2004!

I believe that Obama will try to make it so that it ends the way that is better for all,
not just better for those who didn't listen to his words the entire time he was talking.

He believes what he stated,
and if you voted for him,
after hearing his view on Afghanistan,
then the question has to be
what were you thinking?

13. I like most voters voted for Obama to get us out of Iraq, not to escalate the war in Afghanistan.
Frankly according to the polls that is what most democrats were thinking.

And I did polling nationally for democrats and what we found consistently throughout the country the primary thing on democrats minds was for a democrat to get us out of Iraq, and to have a change/get a democrat in the White House. Afghanistan may have been on Obama's mind, but it was not on Democrats' minds.

So we don't want to own Afghanistan as an issue, if Obama want to escalate Afghanistan then it is totally his baby. Obama said he would listen to the people, and he clearly is not listening. Observe this forum, people are very angry and divided on Afghanistan. This country promised we would never go into another war like Vietnam divided and here we go. We clearly have not learned the lessons that war tragically offered.

Additionally given times have changed since the election and our economy has all but collapsed, it makes even less sense than it did at the election to get involved in such an escalation in Afghanistan which most experts say is un-winnable anyhow.

5. "increasing troops" = "escalating war"...
Interesting how that idea is being slung about.

"escalating peace-keepers"
"escalating school building"
"escalating ..."

Hm...

12. Pres. Obama has his own ideas, and he told us about them
over and over again.

I believe he has decided to give a try
to all that he has said.

Guess he isn't a man of all talk and no action as some have said.

15. The thing that bothers me
other than the sending of the troops, is the making of the announcement at West Point. Those cadets won't be the ones going to Afghanistan. So why make the announcement there? Why not suck it up and make the announcement in front of a group of peace activists?
