Are golfers our society's highest moral role models?
If a caveman was unfrozen today he would probably assume such after watching all the Tiger coverage.

1. The idea that excelling at sports creates "character" is ridiculous...
Yet it persists even though it proven to be fallacious virtually every day.

What professional sports does to the most successful individuals is create a sense of entitlement, an opportunity to follow one's impulses and a feeling that the "rules" don't apply.

2. Broadly speaking it's money and/power
that creates a sense of entitlement. It's certainly not unique to professional sports.

3. Why does society need to care about someone's life if
it doesn't effect us personally?

7. Point taken, but golf is largely honor as cheating opportunities abound. You would have to be an avid
golfer to appreciate that, someone who competes in tournaments. But your point is made. With him it's his stature.
