I'm sorry, but 18 out of 58 is a joke. After 4 days it should be at least 40.

4. True - but they likely are in contact with their offices
Senator Kerry was the 5th or 6th person to sign and he was in India or Pakistan. This does seem like there was some intent to roll out the names over time as some of the obvious proponents - ie Rockefeller and Dodd - have not signed.

7. Smart strategy?
re: "This does seem like there was some intent to roll out the names over time "

You may be right. And it could be smart. Now it's a new story every day when more people sign, instead of having been a one-shot story. It also creates the impression of a movement that's picking up steam, whereas a single announcement would not have had that, even if it included a larger number of senators.

re: "some of the obvious proponents - ie Rockefeller and Dodd - have not signed."

and Feingold, I imagine...

8. Not sure if it is smart
In addition, they don't need 50 to sign just to get the roll call vote. Reid can do so if he wants to even with no letter. The question is whether people should be put on record for this - if it doesn't have enough votes. Every poll has shown that more than a majority want it, but I don't know if that was ever taken to the state level. If it has and the results hold at the state level, then many who wanted to stay in the "good graces" and on the list of PAC recipients from the insurance industry might be pushed to vote for the people. (It is interesting that many are up for re-election on the list including Bennett, Gillibrand, and Schumer. )

I thought Feingold had signed, but the two I listed were the ones who spearheaded the issue in the Finance and HELP committee respectively.

and it keeps the Republicans from thinking it's gonna happen,
and therefore keeps them from planning too seriously their path for obstruction.
It's a good strategy not to have them all jump on the bandwagon all at once.

I especially notice those on board currently aren't all the usual suspects....
cause Feinstein, Specter, Bennet, and even Schumer are not exactly
anything more than Moderate Senators.

This reminds me of the Primaries with the super delegates signing up one or two a day...

6. I hope you're right.
It just feels like they are not getting it. And, I just can't believe that so many would be so out of touch.

10. I Called Durbin's Office Yesterday And Was Told He Was Out Of The Country......
They didn't commit to him signing on - but they did tell me that he has always been on record in support of a public option.

3. Nay Sayers - like Teabaggers rule the day
It is far easier to criticize then get off you ass and do some thing about your predicament.

Isn't this what Teabaggers criticize welfare recipients for

5.  I just check the schedule..looks like they will all be back for a scheduled vote
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 10:48 AM by Tippy
On Monday evening...I will make my calls either Monday evening of Tues. morning...That way at least I know they should be back..Staffers are notoriously protective of their bosses...We all know this will not be popular with many, they will still be in their districts un till early Monday at the latest, check and see if your congress critter has a meeting schedule in your district...Attend if possible and ask him/her in front of constitutions. Just my 2 cents...
