Pelosi Statement on President Obama Establishing a Bipartisan Commission on Fiscal Responsibility

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today on the executive order signed by President Obama today establishing a National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform:

“This is a time for tough decisions and bold leadership on our national debt. Reining in our deficits is not a matter for partisan politics – it’s about upholding our responsibility to our children and grandchildren. Leaders of both parties must set aside our differences and work across party lines to avoid saddling future generations with the burden of poor choices in the past.

“Congress and the President recognize the urgency of this challenge, which is why last week the President signed into law our pay-as-you-go legislation – a critical step on the path toward deficit reduction and fiscal discipline. The President’s fiscal commission represents another step forward in our effort to restore discipline to the budget process and place common sense ahead of partisan politics.”
