Dardenne to pursue upcoming vacancy
Secretary of State Jay Dardenne says he intends to pursue the upcoming vacancy in the Lieutenant Governor’s Office.

“I am planning on running,” said Dardenne, a Republican.

“I am raising money and getting a lot of encouragement from a lot of people,” he said.

Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, a Democrat, is leaving the office because he was elected mayor of New Orleans on Feb. 6.

Gov. Bobby Jindal will name an interim successor to Landrieu until voters decide the issue in the fall.

Jindal also hopes lawmakers will submit a constitutional amendment to voters that would abolish the Lieutenant Governor’s Office and transfer its duties elsewhere.
