Bowman bows out in Michigan
Former Michigan Treasurer Bob Bowman announced Monday that he won't run for governor this year, becoming the second promising Democrat to pass on the race in as many weeks.

Bowman opened an exploratory committee just last week, but the Detroit News reports that he issued a statement bowing out with the vague explanation: “or many reasons, I am just not able to commit at this time." His spokesman declined to elaborate to the News.

Bowman, who has worked in New York as director of Major League Baseball's interactive media service, could have brought significant financial resources to the race. His decision comes after Denise Ilitch, another wealthy executive whose family owns the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers, also declined to run.

Mayor Virg Bernero entered the race last week and is the only Democratic candidate to declare since Lt. Gov. John Cherry ended his campaign in early January.
