STIMULUS PACKAGE AND JOBS
Has created jobs 6%
Has not, but will create jobs 41%
Will not create jobs 48%
Jeez people... of course the stimulus has created jobs. That is beyond dispute. So as a literal statement this poll result is amazing... the (indisputably true) idea that the stimulus has created jobs polls about as well as the idea that the Earth is flat.
Yet people are fairly hopeful that the stimulus will create jobs later though believing it hasn't so far, which is almost comical. The stimulus package DID create some jobs but it will NOT do as much going forward as it did in the past.
On the other hand, if someone interprets "create jobs" as meaning "net jobs in the economy" then of course the stimulus did not acheive that. There are fewer jobs today then when it was passed.
Bottom line: People don't know what the stimulus was, don't know what it did and don't know what it will do.

Has reasonable solutions to your economic problems:
Obama: 40%
Democrats: 29%
Republicans: 22%
(This is not a 3-choice question. People could say all three do or none do.)

WHICH PARTY WOULD DO BETTER ON…?
Health care: R-27% D-44%
Creating jobs: R-36% D-42%
Economy: R-42% D-37%
PRESIDENT OBAMA’S APPROVAL RATINGS
Approve Disapprove
Economy 42% 52
Health care 35% 55
Striking that the public separates "economy" from jobs. I have no idea what people think the Republicans would do the the economy, but they narrowly favor them on that item.
Note that only 22% think Republicans "have reasonable solutions to your economic problems" but 42% think they would do a better job on the economy. Go figure.

JOB CREATION AND THE DEFICIT
Govt should spend to create jobs 47%
Govt should lower deficit 45%
The public obviously didn't get the memo on this one... according to the conventional wisdom crowd they are way more concerned about the deficit than about jobs. Bad public! Read your talking points.

IN ORDER TO LOWER DEFICIT, DECREASE SPENDING ON…?
Health care and education: Willing 30% Not willing 62%
Military: Willing 45% Not willing 51%
Again the public gets their guess at what they think wrong. We all know that deficit reduction is all about discretionary social programs. Reducing military spending would be crazy! Silly public.
