The President so far

Based on this last year, where on the political spectrum do you place this President and why?

He has surprised me in that he is a lot more conservative (status quo) than I thought he was going to be.
While expanding SCHIP was needed I am still trying to figure out his strategy for health care reform.

With the appointment of Geithner, the huge financial bailouts, the modest ARR Act, and the stalled health care reform, I consider him centrist/right.
He certainly is not the populist his speeches would indicate...IMHO.

1. This was posted a 1000 times during the primaries:

It pretty well comports with what we're seeing now.

2. Hm. Kept 96 of 500 promises in the first year, 273 in the works, and he's NOT what he campaigned as?
Edited on Tue Feb-16-10 09:07 AM by Richardo
Compromised on 25% (33 of 129) of the kept promises, and broke 15 of 500+ (3%) promises.

I don't get where he's governing THAT inconsistently with his campaign - certainly as compared to other Presidents. It seems the fault lies more with (unwarranted) expectations than performance.

7. Unwarranted?
So you think he clearly articulated during the campaign that what he wanted to do was to push forward a bunch of old GOP plans from 15 years ago as his health care reform initiative. You think he clearly articulated that he wanted no public option, that he wanted increased restrictions on insurance for reproductive health care, and that he wanted to move forward with the "Cadillac tax" plan instead of canceling the Bush Tax cuts.

Do you also think he clearly articulated that he wanted to triple the number of troops in Afghanistan and still be there well into his second term? Do you think he clearly articulated that he would still have US Forces in Iraq in his second term? How about keep Gates on all through his first year?

3. The other day, I heard him say we could not implement an FDR style jobs program.
He said it wouldn't work in today's economy (or some such nonsense).

That was very telling.

5. He's a good TALKER, that's for sure - and that's ALL he is...
He will be a good very mediocre President at best...
