How to handle Republican obstructionism

All Dems should repeat this narrative and pound it in to the American psyche:

Richard Shelby and his Republican friends are despicable extortionists who will sabotage the operation of the United States government for the sake of some pork-barrel earmarks. They could also fit it into a larger narrative about nihilistic Republicans who care so little about the country's fate that they will do virtually anything to subvert the administration, no matter what the cost, if they think it will gain them some advantage or some pork.

It comes from a diary on Open Left which also suggests arresting Shelby for treason. A great idea but less likely to happen. Above all, the point is that all of these nasty games by the GOP have to start costing them big time. Right now, they cost nothing and give them plenty. They get to make the Dems look dysfunctional and incompetent. It is time to point out quite clearly that the GOP care only about their short term political gain and not a whit about the rest of us.
