Virginia GOP Mocks Epic Snow Storm As ‘12 Inches Of Global Warming’

In other news, this past month of January was the warmest on record for the planet.

The Republican Party is filled with morons.

14. See this is why discussing this sort of thing with RW idiots is so hard...
Edited on Sat Feb-06-10 09:29 PM by Reterr
That is how science works...it is like that with smaller systems that are easier to characterize and holds for larger systems that are much more complex...
A hypothesis develops, is tested and changes over time as our understanding of it gets more sophisticated. But as far as the average RW moron or even some member of our dumbed down general public is concerned, this is scientists (that all powerful lobby) "fudging stuff or changing the story" etc.

These people do not have any idea about the history of scientific research, the way science works or anything except some sort of rugged libertarian disbelief in anything that cannot be simplified enough for the comprehension of their thick-headed selves...sigh...

You ignore it and parrot RW talking points.

If you don't have the scientific knowledge part anymore, it's all over, y'know? Game over. Give it up.

16. No, when it was realized that this was a more accurate description..
The only ones who are attacking it are ignorant teabags and those getting paid by oil leeches.

"Climate Change or Global Warming?

23. The term is downright silly and will be mocked if the general public hears about the terminology
change. Bottom line, public policy won't be changed or made as a result of fears of "climate change". It's dull and pretty meaningless, and yes, silly.

5. Heck, I remember several years ago when Dennis Miller made an appearance on Leno.
He said he didn't believe in global warming / climate change because the average temperature of the Earth has increased by just a half-degree in the last 100 years. So therefore, there can't be any warming.

He, like his fellow Repukes, don't truly understand what "climate change" means.

It means that the summers get hotter and drier, and that the winters, especially the winter storms, get much worse.

It means that my part of the country, San Diego, experienced severe thunderstorms with high winds several weeks ago and for the first time in my memory, we had tornado warnings for San Diego County.

Tornadoes! In San Diego?

6. The Earth's climate is a non-linear dynamic system
and I would be very surprised if any Republican would have enough intelligence to understand the Butterfly effect, as noted by MIT meteorologist Lorenz in "Deterministic non-periodic flow" (1963).
A complex, non-linear system may display chaotic behavior. The behavior of the system is critically dependent on very small changes of the initial conditions. IOW, nonlinearity can lead to chaos.

The basic fact is that the Earth's climate system is non-linear. That means that there is no simple proportional relation between cause and effect. Yes, Virginia, there is global warming.

They actively believe that the very notion of a non-linear dynamic system is made-up for the sole purpose of denying the existence of God.

They're fucking idiots.

24. Global Warming (or Global Climate Change)
does NOT necessarily mean that it's going to stop snowing (in places where it normally happens) but it does mean that, globally, climate is getting more wacky and a little more intense. The continued existence of snow in places like Virginia is NOT evidence that global warming doesn't exist. Idiots. :banghead:

25. Mixing up current weather with climate trends over a time period is a common mistake of...
...climate change deniers.

I like to point out to such people that they need to be congratulated for somehow having more knowledge on climate change than scientists at NASA.

26. I usually ask them to explain how all that "Snow" got up into the atmosphere
I've never gotten an answer from them on that.

Heat creates the basic energy of any storm. Not to mention allows all that moisture to get into the atmosphere.
