Obama: 'Take our time' on finalizing health care
Obama: 'Take our time' on finalizing health care

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama says "we should take our time" getting to a final health care bill.

He said Thursday he wants to go through the legislation in detail with Republicans to examine their ideas and Democratic ideas to see whether there are better ways to improve the nation's health care system than have already been proposed.

Obama said that letting some time pass before calling for a vote also will allow "everybody to get the real facts."

The president spoke to donors and supporters of his political organization, Organizing for America, one of a handful of fundraisers he was headlining Thursday for Democrats.

Thank you President Obama for saying you want to "take our time". Are you willing to tell that to the people who don't have health insurance? Or to the people whose premiums are going up by hundreds of dollars? Probably not.

that she has to wait for health care. I guess it is all about Obama getting picked on on a message board to you.

19. I guess the deadbeats in congress really had NOTHING to do with this.
His big mistake was assuming they'd act like adults.

I hope your girlfriend fully recovers.

11. My insurance goes up 40% in April
And the 'insurance' wont pay anything until I pay the first $5000.

If I have medical problems it will be cheaper for me to fly to Costa Rica and have it done there, even though I will be paying 15k a year for 'insurance.'

Now what was it you were saying again?

23. If you want an all praise Obama forum
the moderators have already set that up for you on DU. There is a specific Barack Obama forum on DU where no criticism is allowed.

However, on this forum, criticism of the President is our right and responsibility and is not subject to quotas.

2. "he wants to go through the legislation in detail with Republicans to examine their ideas"
Why does he continue to treat GOP opposition like it is in good faith? I find it hard to believe he really thinks good-faith negotiation is possible. But time is not on his side. November will come around fast. Oh and by the way, people are going bankrupt and dying under the current system.

14. Right. And it's their fault.
Not the Blue Dogs or ConservaDem Senators who held up the bill so they could weaken it. Nope, not them.
'Twas the loudmouths on DU what caused it!

31. I think you vastly overrate the positive or negative impact of posting on the internets.
This HCR fiasco has many authors, including the President, the Senate, and the House, in more or less that order.

(I am not sure if the Senate or the Prez should come first--it's close).

Sadly, there seems to be no leadership coming right now from anywhere but the House.

Which is not enough, I fear.

We need all three to do their jobs on this.

12. The 'kill the crappy bill' folks had nothing to do with what has happened
They had no say in the process, obviously. This whole debacle is a result of letting Baucus and Lieberman control the bills, and 'reaching out' to the sociopaths on the other side of the aisle.

13. Yeah....right! The propaganda that this was either a government take over,
or a windfall for insurance company didn't work. That's news to most of us.

15. As if Obama, Baucus or Lieberman listened to any of it
The bill was handed off to those who wanted to kill it. The end result was predictable.

16. Look, instead of folks actually getting out there to town halls,
Edited on Fri Feb-05-10 01:33 PM by FrenchieCat
they mostly hoped that Daddy would fix everything.

Some are still laughing at the 600 Teabaggers gathered at a convention,
and who will get more news media coverage than 1 million war protestors
ever did.

Talk to your media about how things got fucked up.
Perhaps they have your answer; the one you would prefer to reject,
while choosing to dump on this administration, cause that's so fucking easy to do,
and like everything else done by some "progressive" takes absolutely
no action; just mouths and frowns and typing some choice words over and over again.

18. Excuse YOU, but I did go to town halls to support HCR.
I showed up at rallies and canvassed and made phone calls too. That was back when Democrats, including the President, were promising a public option. The bill passed by the Senate has been stripped of everything that would really have cut costs and was popular with the voters. But you expect me to slap a phony smile on my face and pretend it's wonderful. Not gonna do it. Some of us have limits, even though you clearly don't.

Shit, if the final bill were nothing but a mandate to buy health insurance with a full repeal of Roe v. Wade (AKA Nelson's and Stupak's dream bill) you'd be admonishing us to support it while "Frenchie-splaining" to us why it's really a good thing.

20. The responsibility lies with those in charge
It isnt the medias fault. It isnt the progressives fault. It isn't my fault, or your fault. It is congress and the administrations fault.

Eventually Obama will realize that his continued, 'reaching out,' to the bluedogs and the sociopaths comes at the cost of progress. Lets hope he realizes it sooner than later.

Why are you blaming ordinary citizens for our leaders' failures?

32. The negative reaction was prompted by the actions of the Senate.
And of those Senators--Baucus, Nelson, Lieberman, and the others, who were given MUCH too much prominence in the process.

28. To me, that sounds like a diplomatic way of saying, "I'm going to take all of
your craptastic notions and shoot them down factually, one by one." Maybe we should have a President's Q&A where he gets to do some questioning. I'd like to see a few Senators defend their positions on live television.

8. Considering how Repubs have openly said they want to KILL IT no matter what it is clear that Obama..
has pretty much moved on and not really interested in dealing with this anymore...and has no interest if it passes or dies. The bill isn't very appealing and so these new comments doesn't bother me in the least....i've moved on as well.

21. We spent this summer listening to Republicans. All it brought us was a few more headaches and
Olympia Snowe voting for the bill in committee, but not in full session.

May be it is time to act.
