House Dems Trash Obama's Plan For Jobs Tax Credit
(02-03) 08:36 PST WASHINGTON (AP) --

Some rank and file Democrats in the House are trashing President Barack Obama's plan to give businesses that add workers a new $5,000 tax credit for each job they create.

Democratic Rep. Mike Thompson of California said businesses won't hire new employees unless they have work for them to do. Democratic Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas said companies that have struggled to keep workers would lose out while those that got rid of workers could get the credit by replacing them.

3. Uh except...
...when the same thing was tried in the mid 70's it was a tremendous success.

But we wouldn't want that to get in the way of a good argument...

4. They may have a point. In fact, common sense tells us right now
businesses if they are to remain in business look out
for what is in their best interest. They only add labor
when their business is growing. They cut back when
business is not growing. They cannot make money, otherwise.

From what I understand, Obama's Plan is an offer. In
other words, the money would be available if there are
some businesses that this incentive might help. It is
not as if he is going to mail out a bunch of money to
small businesses. Instead, they would have to apply
for the funds. If this is the case, then Obama has the
right to try any means to stimulate the job market.

Are these two members Blue Dogs? If so, the "green
eye-shaders" will have a problem with anything that is
not a cut. Their obsession with the deficit would lead
us down the path of Herbert Hoover.

Businesses that keep workers wouldn't lose out. There are also tax credits for business expansion activities like buying equipment and hiring more workers. Startups can also benefit.

8. Businesses with no payroll growth don't get an incentive to... have done nothing?
Yes, geniuses, businesses that don't need to hire more staff will not be getting hiring incentive money.
