The PROBLEM with Washington :: Why doesn't Obama and Congress Say the REAL reason...
The problem with the Obama administration, senate, and congress has ALL to do with corporate financing and lobbying jobs on retirement. That influence gums up and twists the proper outcome of votes. No one ever says it as if such an influence doesnt exist. It is frustrating to hear Obama try to cover for all of them. Until a separation of capitalism from state occurs the US politics is fucked.

My 2 cent rant.

1. McCain and Feingold have talked about this. Did you vote for McCain?
No, none of us did. That was obviously not one of my (or your) main concerns.

We've seen the part that plays in the scheme of things, though. But there is no one left to take up the mantle and fight it.

2. The problem with Washington is the problem with America.
Washington is just a conglomeration of the fucking morons the other 50 states decide to send here. All Washington really is is a reflection of how screwed we are as a nation.

But corporate financing of elections is certainly a major, major problem. Federally funded elections or bust, in my opinion. There's no other way to do it.

3. Idiocracy. Soon even our kids will wear school uniforms with corporate logos.
Individual sheets of toilet paper will be sold to corporate sponsors. The SOTU will be broadcast from The Citibank Government Center. The capitol dome will be painted with the Red Bull logo. Your driver's license will have corporate sponsors printed on it. It's where we're heading.

4. It wasn't that long ago
that I first viewed that movie with my son who said I HAD to see it. I thought it was funny but thought nothing of it other than it was a couple of hours of funny with some startling accusations that I found alarming but not seriously predictive. It was not more than a year or so later I saw it as a harbinger of things to come if we did not change things. Seems almost too late. I know better than that, or I do on the days I actually have some confidence in the citizenry of this country to stop what hurts us. The other days it just seems too late.

NGU trying to make things better. Pick your battles and hope to god everyone else has a battle to fight too.

5. America is the land of corporate welfare. Nothing new since I was a kid.
By the way, I grew up in the 80's. I think it was even worse then.

6. You are right that there has always been corporate welfare, but it is much worse now than in the 80s
We had a short period of time, the same time the middle class was growing & prospering, where the corporations were held somewhat in check, with strong unions & a progressive tax structure. But thanks to Reagan's deregulation, union busting, & tax cuts for the corporate class, the last 30 years have seen an escalation of corporate influence that surprises even me.

I remember when stadiums were named after influential people. Now most are named after corporations, even though the stadium is paid for by the People.

7. People now see gov't jobs as the way to wealth, not as the way to govern.
