I'd like to nose in for a moment to say... post-Obama, the Republican Party is now turning left.
Scott Brown, a pro-choice Republican who is "willing to work with Democrats" (his words) wins in Massachusetts.

Mark Kirk, a pro-choice Republican, wins the GOP primary for the Illinois governor's race.

They HAVE to do this. They have lost much of their party to Obama and Co. in '08, and the nation's financial situation is starting to lead some independents to accepting more ideologically liberal narratives, whether it be from a Republican or a Democrat.

I can hear the cries now... "Those damned RINO's are taking over the party!"

"We need to respect our base - aim for true CONSERVATIVE values!"

"Those weak-kneed GOP-lite folks need to stop kissing Obama's ass!"

etc.

Well... Congress is being petulant now, but let's see if this trend continues. Congress may not be so petulant in the future.

1. I'll rec it. What the hell. I hope it's true.
I for one don't believe the 2010 gloom-and-doom scenario anyway. It's a bunch of bullshit being fed to America by the media which has a LOT to lose if Democrats win...they'll have to provide insurance to employees *gasp!* and they'll have to admit their agenda has been a sham.

The big media is owned by defense contractors, insurance giants (and I mean this LITERALLY) and other corporate boardrooms with a lot to lose. With the recent Supreme Court ruling, they'll get to pump a lot of shareholder's money into defeating us. Let's see what happens.

6. The Bait/Switch GOP is fucked with a proven record of ineptness and flaws
As a viable pol Party....Evolution sez they are most likely to go extinct due to public rejection of their less than bes Solutions to our Social Well Being.

They are a Party of Failure.....they care not for Country...only their Greedy Group of Pillage, plunder, rape, and spoils too. Expidient and Predatory, they scam / plot for themselves

3. Would love to believe this, but Brown will just vote no and talk trash like the rest of 'em.
Brown: freshman senator, clown to begin with. Say anything to get elected, then screw 'em.

Don't hold out much more hope for Kirk.

But, I could be wrong!

7. It must be pointed out that a significant percentage of the Repubs will resist such a move.
I see this development as more risky for them.

It's often pointed out that Democrats have an internal division, and that is obvious. But it is even more clear that the Repubs have a MUCH worse problem with the teabaggers and lobbyists fighting among themselves.

Here's hoping you are right. Right now, I'm doubtful.

8. Don't Know About Kirk,

but I wouldn't take an election in MA as an indication of a national trend. Brown is the equivalent of Ben Nelson -- he had to say some very un-Republican things to get elected in that state and will probably continue to do so.

10. Interesting to see what this portends for 2012
My guess is that an ostensible moderate who's ostensibly competent will end up as the presidential nominee.

11. Let us see if Scott Brown votes what he says, or votes the party line...
Pro-choice Republicans will, when push comes to shove, outlaw abortion, refuse to pass laws that regulate the banks, or create a health-care system. I still remember Bush and his compassionate conservatism. It was a swindle, and kinder, gentler Republicans are just more of the same.

12. And let us remember,
at one time John McCain was a champion of campaign finance reform. Never trust a filthy Republican.

14. Maybe
The Republicans "turning left" could be a good thing or a bad thing depending how the rank and file members of the party react. If the "teabaggers" swallow their *pride* and support moderate Republicans- for the sake of supporting Republicans in general- more moderate Republican candidates might be able to attract more independents and moderates from both parties, which could make it more difficult for us to win those races (or at least make them more competitive). If, however, the "teabaggers" revolt against the Republican Party "establishment" and withhold their votes and/or run more conservative candidates in those races whom are more in line with their *thinking* (i.e NY-23), they will split the vote, which should, theoretically benefit our candidates in those races. It will definitely be interesting to see which way things go.

17. The teabaggers helped Scott Brown big time. You STILL think he's moderate?
Look at actions, not words, when it comes to politicians.
