SOTU. President Obama, PLEASE say that we tried the 'Republican way' for...
Edited on Mon Jan-25-10 02:03 PM by YvonneCa
...eight, long years. It didn't work. Those eight years were PAINFUL. Some of us thought our country wouldn't survive them.

You were elected to do things (the economy, foreign policy, etc.) differently. CHANGE.

Please say this BLUNTLY and CLEARLY before you lay out your plan (which I absolutely support, BTW).

:patriot:

1. Make it "nine long years"
And tell the country you tried doing things their way for the last year, now its time to be the progressive people voted for.

3. He has said that several times....
I've seen him say it several times in speeches and interviews.

Which is why it confounds me that when it comes time to act, he advocates these same failed policies and the same failed people who advocated them in the first place.

4. I'm hoping for a very forceful, agressive speech. But I'm afraid we will get
"bipartisanship" instead.

5. Yeah. I've kinda had it with Kumbayah.
Time to tear down the house and rebuild. No more Mr. Nice Guy who ignores his impassioned base. And the speech should be the tip of the iceberg. We want actions that match his eloquent words.

7. He will. The theme will be back to blaming Bush. Worked before.

9. I probably could have been more...
...clear:

I am NOT talking at all about blame. I know it is a fine line. I hated it when GWB blamed everything on 9/11 instead of taking responsibility for his own decisions. I DO NOT want Obama to shirk responsibility for anything.

BUT...I do think there is an important point to be made about GOP opportunity to fix things for eight, LONG years. They showed no interest in doing so. The fact that they whine now makes no sense. The fact that they say we are rushing, ignores the fact that Democrats were waiting for EIGHT YEARS to try our hand at helping to turn the country around.

That's the point I hope our President will make.

11. He will be using "the last eight years" as a euphemism for "Bush's fault". That's OK.

8. Well, some believe HIS way IS Bushs' way. So, I don't
think that would help him any.
