Lanny Davis is useful insofar as he is always Wrong.
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 07:00 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
If Lanny is saying it you can safely discard it as rubbish.

Lanny is on TV talking about how we need a bill that gains support from McCain and Lindsey Graham and... wait for it... Orin Hatch.

I wish he was high, but he isn't. He is paid $$$ to say these dreadful things.

He had to be on something. Maybe huge bags of $ does that to you, I wouldn't know about that.

...and then ask why the Republican co-sponsors aren't supporting it anymore.

he's taken. And Ed knows about them too. I think it was on Ed's show that a woman(I forget who) really called him out on that. He got very offended.

23. I'm pretty sure that was Jane Hamsher
Lanny was a total dick and refused to answer who paid him even though she must have asked more than 5 times. Lanny kept coming back at her about the blackface incident.

Lanny is a horrible excuse of a human being. So is Mark Penn for that matter, speaking of the Clinton corporatist entourage.

9. Hmm..
He said about Obama, "..if he runs," talking about 2012, what would give the idea that he wouldn't run...he couldn't still have HRC on his mind, could he???

I haven't heard of anyone saying that about the President this early,.."if he runs."

Strange..

And if we're really, really nice we might get Coburn, Inhofe, and Cornyn on board.

18. I can honestly say that I didn't have a clue what the fuck Lanny Davis was talking about
I also read his article in the Wall Street Journal and I still have no idea what he is talking about.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703837004575013221708478134.html

The third way New Democratic policies more or less have been adopted by the party. For better or worse (and I think a good deal of it is worse) this is because working class white people started voting Republican in 1968 and Democrats were left with no choice but to start appealing to upper-middle class suburbanites who don't like the religious wrong but don't benefit from New Deal style economic populism. We all know this.

But I just can't fathom how he thinks that progressives have managed to "hijack" the party in the last 12 months, although I'm sure they wish they had. Progressives barely have any influence whatsoever. This bill is, without a doubt, a centrist/third way approach to health care reform. If not for the little progressive influence there is, it wouldn't even be that because Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman are making demands that are to the right of the centrist/third way approach.

Finally, the most delusional idea is the notion of appealing to John McCain, Lindsay Graham, and Orin Hatch. The President could literally tell those three senators to write a health care bill and he would sign it and they still wouldn't agree to it. It's not about policy for them, it's about defeating the President. As somebody who worked in the Clinton Administration, you would think that Lanny would get that.

21. That's what happens when you hand a liberal Democratic seat to
a Republican. It doesn't make people think you should be MORE LIBERAL. It makes them think you should be more centrist or conservative. That said, I totally agree about Lanny Davis -- loser.

Can Dems say . . . BACKLASH?!
