On Next Steps for Health Reform

Posted by Dan Pfeiffer

Right now there are a lot of discussions going on about the best path forward. But let's be clear that the President's preference is to pass a bill that meets the principles he laid out months ago: more stability and security for those who have insurance, affordable coverage options for those who don’t, and lower costs for families, businesses, and governments.

Update: For more specific context, some stories floating around have claimed that the President has decided to pursue a slimmed-down health reform bill.

3. I take it as good news.
Obama is toning down some of his earlier comments that suggested reform might be much smaller and in pieces.

14. That must have happened when I was taking a nap this afternoon....
.... I have two Twitter accounts shooting updates at me and read four blogs every hour on the hour for news .... when did he say that he wanted to pass the bill in smaller pieces? (That's a serious question.)

16. There's a link in the OP
The White House linked to a story that was misinterpreted. So I guess he didn't really say he's for weaker reform, but that's how his comments were interpreted. Thus the push back on them.

18. Ah yes, I see it now....
..... I rely on reporters for what Capitol Hill says .... as for the President, they have modernized their communications office so effectively via the internet I dont have to rely on the press to tell me what they say. Pfeiffer posts a blog entry and I pops up on my iphone immediately. I also listened to what Ax, Gibbs and Plouffe said on the various news programs today and NOTHING they said indicated that they wanted to do anything other than for the House to pass the Senate bill. They were pretty clear on that.

13. So is this meant to contradict those stories?
Is he still planning to push the bill in its full measure?

"President's preference?"
