What can the Democrats do now about HCR?
Edited on Tue Jan-19-10 09:46 PM by FVZA_Colonel
I know that there's been talk about things like reconcilliation or having an immediate vote on the Senate version, but with Even Bayh already running for the hills (http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/01/bayh-dems-are-in-denial-about-massachusetts-senate-race.php?ref=fpblg), and I'm betting more "Blue Dog" pricks to follow, what would be the best strategy for getting HCR passed?

1. Same thing they have been doing, giving away the store.
Nothing changes really.

2. It is dead
I'd say 5% chance they ping pong it in the next few days, 5% they pass the senate bill, 5% chance they convince snow after they give up the farm and a 85% chance Repugs will block everything from here on no matter what and then paint the Dems as do-nothings.

Look at how Repug obstructionism has paid off so far. You have people bitching about Obama not doing anything on a Democratic message board FFS. People here should know better but I see frequent posts ignoring senate realities. It plays even better with the less informed electorate. Better again when you have the "true progressives" teaming up with the Repugs.

5. I know it's a small chance, but God I hope Reid fucking grows a spine and doesn't seat Brown
until the deadline on the 29th or passes it through reconciliation.

Of course, he's never done so before, but it's at least something.

7. That is what they should do but I doubt the House will go along
The House will go into survival mode now after tonight, ensuring their demise.
