Brown just got a call from Coakley to congratulate him on his win.

:-(

Can't find a link yet, but they just announced it on FOX.

But if that's the case, why run in the first place?

8. Well, that doesn't mean that she didn't want the job.
That just means that she wasn't a good campaigner and made some bad blunders.

10. It wasn't that she wasn't a good campaigner
it was that she was irresponsible and did not properly serve those who elected her.
Thus, she did not want to be a senator.

17. Well, the Democrats in Congress have no one else to blame but themselves
for screwing the pooch on healthcare reform, not with the kind of super majority that we have. A majority that many a former Dem. president would have envied.

24. I agree completely....
New Jersey, Virginia and now MA, the bluest of the blue states. Things are going to be a lot harder for the dems, after the mid-terms in November.

The balls still in their court, it will be very interesting to see what the next move will be.........

27. NJ is my state and Corzine is my neighbor.
I had already figured out that he was going to have a hard time getting reelected. People around here were furious at the high taxes and lack of jobs.

2. Republican Scott Brown Defeats Democrat Martha Coakley in Mass. Senate Race
By DEVIN DWYER
Jan. 19, 2010

In a dramatic upset that will end Democrats' super majority in the Senate, Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown defeated Democrat Martha Coakley to claim the seat held by the late Ted Kennedy for more than 46 years.

Brown's victory makes him the 41st Republican in the Senate, meaning Democrats will no longer be able to prevent a Republican filibuster -- a major complication for President Obama's agenda and health care legislation currently pending in Congress.

Brown has said he opposes Democrats' health care overhaul working its way through Congress, and some Democrats are even acknowledging Brown's win could imperil passage of other big ticket items, including climate change legislation, regulatory reforms and a banking industry overhaul. There has so far been little or no bipartisanship on such major issues.

15. Oh gee, I didn't even think of him.
It's going to be a hard transition for Kerry, after years of working with Kennedy, to have to deal with a Republican in Teddy's seat.

;(

IMO, the result would have been similar even if Teddy were still here...........

I think the whole country is disgusted with both parties and their policies. Instead of spin, I hope the dems learn something, and we see some real changes soon!

Hold on to your hat, it's going to be a very bumpy night, and the repubs will be doing a lot of gloating....

22. You really think so?
I don't think that Teddy would have lost his seat if he were up for reelection. People know that he would have fought for a better healthcare bill.

It's hard to believe that Kennedy's seat, of all senate seats, just went to a Republican. That really boggles the mind.

19. With direct TV
they have a channel called 'direct news mix,' which shows all the news channels on the screen at once. It works great on nights like this.

I too heard the announcement when it first aired. I was surprised she conceded so early, but the Boston votes she was hoping to get did't happen.

I put it on that channel sometimes, but today I just kept flipping channels. All that while cooking a pot of sauce w/sausage and baby bella mushrooms to serve with polenta. LOL!!

Nothing like comfort food on a winter night.

26. Actually I'm not, but I like Italian food.
A true Italian would have said that she was making gravy, not sauce. Although, if I so myself, it came out pretty good. I like polenta, it's Italian grits. I hadn't made polenta in ages, but tonight I felt like having it.

:D
