(I have no idea how soon the Cubans will put this book out in an
English translation, though I hope it will be very soon. They're
going all out to make this available throughout the Spanish-
speaking world, as these reports make evident.)

Launch of Peace in Colombia, an essential reference book Culture
Minister Abel Prieto described La paz en Colombia (Peace in Colombia)
by leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, launched yesterday
at Havana's International Conference Center, as a essential reference
book for all authentic left-wing intellectuals and those involved in
social movements in Latin America and other regions.
The text, he affirmed, "invites analysis, study and rigor" of one part
of recent history that remains unwritten or very partially written,
leaving extremely respectful documentary evidence from Cuba on its
efforts to contribute to attaining peace in Colombia. Above all, it
re-emphasizes Fidel's thesis that one should never give up working for
peace," he added.
José Arbesú, deputy head of the International Relations Department of
the Central Committee, an exceptional witness to the events narrated,
said that the work "approaches something that had been hidden,"
precisely those efforts of the island, made concrete in "the conduct
of the Cuban Revolution, the conduct of the Commander in Chief," which
reveal the ethical and principled position maintained "over 30 years
and which has nothing to do with wars," but has sought to find a
negotiated and just solution to the Colombian conflict.
The result of more than 400 hours of "the unfailing and inexhaustible
creative will of the author," according to journalist Katiuska Blanco,
the book – published by Editora Política – reveals important
documents, interviews and experiences with "minute precision" and
constitutes an "oceanic volume on account of its sincerity and reach,"
thus giving readers the possibility of drawing their own conclusions.
The integral text of the book appears today on the website
http://japon.cubadebate.co.cu/libros/La_paz_en_Colombia.pdfThe launch, shown live on the TV "Roundtable" program, was attended by

Balaguer, minister of health; and Concepción Campa, director of the
Finlay Institute; as well as leaders of government and state, mass
organizations; MINFAR and MININT combatants and a representations of
