Tax embezzlement suspect assassinated

One of the suspects in a major corruption case involving more than a dozen tax officials who allegedly embezzled at least 350 million dollars has been assassinated, a prosecutor in the case said Friday.

Prosecutor Noel Cardenas told Caracol Radio that the victim was the legal representative of one of the companies used by the suspects to file false VAT returns.

The suspected embezzler was found murdered in "strange circumstances," the prosecutor said.

Authorities have so far arrested 13 government officials who are suspected of being part of a criminal network within tax office DIAN that embezzled the tax revenue.

1. Another corruption scandal broke today

JuanMa Santos revealed that four "municipios" had robbed the education ministry of 36,000,000,000 Colombian pesos. (1 Colombian peso = 0.0006 US dollars)

It was done by inflating student enrollment by 34,000 kids. The government had been paying a stipend for each of the 34,000 non-existent students and someone in the "municipios" walked away the pesos.

3. It's a miracle they weren't caught before now, isn't it? 34,000 children!

It's fascinating seeing all these criminals move from the "government" side into the "criminal" side in such a short time, guys who have been the "establishment" all these years.

Sickening they even considered doing it, stealing from the people's treasury to enrich themselves. It's great whenever they get caught.
