El Salvador's parliament speaker Othon Sigfrido Reyes said here on Monday that bilateral legislative exchanges would benefit the overall ties of the two countries.

The visiting president of Salvadoran Legislative Assembly made the remarks while meeting his Cuban counterpart Ricardo Alarcon, the president of Cuba's National Assembly.

This is the first visit by a Salvadoran parliament speaker to Cuba since 1959.

A three-member delegation led by Reyes and Vice President of the legislature Guillermo Antonio Gallegos traveled to the island nation.
