Chile to increase winter shelters for homeless

Chile's National Health Fund and the nongovernmental organization Hogar de Cristo (HC) signed an agreement Tuesday to open more winter shelters in the country from June to August.

The agreement, which has been signed for six consecutive years, will provide accommodation for hundreds of homeless.

Under the agreement, 200 more places will be designated for shelters in central stations nationwide, where the homeless can get accommodation, food, clothes, and enjoy personal hygiene services.

Meanwhile, Fernando Echeverria, governor of the Santiago metropolitan region, said that the government is working to formulate a successful winter plan.
