Hard to stay positive. My FIL died last night. In Cuba. I couldn't go.
As some of you know, my attempts to get legal/professional exemptions to go were futile. He couldn't speak for the last few weeks so I couldn't talk with him over the phone - only via family relaying messages, but he was weak disoriented and confused. He'd hear it was me on the phone and would ask (mumble) 'where is he?' & 'why isn't he here?' & 'where's Norma?' (my deceased wife). I am hurt to the core, not just because of his passing, but also because of the absolute cruelty and inhumanity of such egregious policy by the US. I have made it my life mission to be there for 'my people', my friends, family and patients, and I couldn't fulfill such a basic task.

Today, I'll have to focus hard on being thankful. Being useful. But, I'll try.

Much love to all of my friends here. :loveya: :grouphug:

1. My condolences to you and your family, Mika. I am very sorry.
As for you being useful today ... come on over. We're doing turkey dinners for hospice again late this afternoon.

Get your butt over here again this year, and we'll do some good today in your father in law's name.

Then, afterward, we'll get shitfaced in his name too.

4. The people who made this law clearly never had any loved ones they wouldn't sacrifice
for political revenge, and couldn't care less about people who DO have loved ones they love whole-heartedly. It's a knife in the heart to all people of good will.

Such horrible news, Mika.

Your sorrow, anger are so easy to understand, identify with. Wish you didn't have to go through this.

Your Cuban family at least knows you were there in spirit and undoubtedly they tried to communicate your thoughts to him.

Hope there will be an opening soon for you to make a visit to the others when the harshness of this event has lessened.

Edited on Thu Nov-25-10 07:28 PM by flyarm
and I couldn't get there because all the flights were full because of the Holiday.
She died of a sudden massive stroke. She left a 14 year old son.

I cried all day yesterday and the day before when I got the news. My heart is very sad and heavy. So I know how you feel.

My sincere heartfelt thoughts go to you and your family.

I have many dear dear friends from Cuba. Its terrible that you can not go home to see loved ones.

Kind thoughts and prayers for your Father in Law, and your family.
