Bolivia moves to nationalize pensions, lower age
Bolivia moves to nationalize pensions, lower age
Tue Nov 16, 2010 10:24pm GMT

By Carlos Alberto Quiroga

LA PAZ, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Bolivia's leftist government said on Tuesday it had agreed a bill to nationalize the country's pension system and lower the retirement age to 58.

The ambitious pensions reform bill, which would dismantle the two private retirement funds that have administered the system for years, will immediately be sent to Congress, President Evo Morales said.

The bill was agreed after four years of negotiations with trade union leaders.

In addition to reducing the retirement age in the impoverished country to 58 from 65, mothers and miners would be entitled to pension at an even younger age.

1. Is the word IRONIC, to describe the Pukes RAISING the retirement age here to 67,
while a poor country like Bolivia LOWERS the retirement age to 58?

Or maybe the word is a bit more obscure--scandalously obscure: ES&S/Diebold!

In Bolivia, they DON'T HAVE one, private, far-rightwing-connected corporation counting almost all the votes with 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code and virtually no audit/recount controls, as happens here throughout the states. They actually count their votes IN THE PUBLIC VENUE.

So it ain't just ironic. It's systematic. It's an identifiable problem. And it's FIXABLE--except that, with our corpo-fascist press, most of our people likely DON'T EVEN KNOW THE NAME "ES&S" (which just bought out Diebold and thus gained an 80% monopoly over the U.S. vote counting 'market').

Ironic, tragic and DELIBERATE!

2.  I guess they expect Bolivians to have a shorter life span
Or the benefits will be very low. Statisticians have shown that increasing life spans are not compatible with a decent social security system - there aren't enough workers to pay for the retirees. The other option they have it to have lots and lots of children - and have a huge unsustainable popullation boom - which leave them eating soylent green. I wonder who gave them the idea?
