Panama placed on drug watch list
Panama has been included in a list of countries in which illegal drugs are transported before reaching the United States.
The list was released Friday, and also included drug producing countries. There were 15 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean on the list, which was sent by President Barack Obama to the Department of State. Apart from Panama, the countries on the list included the Bahamas, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.
The document indicates that Panama and Guatemala are "vulnerable" to drug trafficking because of their geographic location.
The list will serve as a base for setting U.S. policies in terms of combating drug trafficking.
