Activists from the U.S.-based group "Pastors for Peace" met on Friday with relatives of five Cubans imprisoned in the United States on espionage charges.

Mirta Rodriguez, mother of Antonio Guerrero, and Olga Salanueva, wife of Rene Gonzalez, attended the meeting aimed to help release the five Cubans arrested on charges of spying in Florida in 1998.

Mirta Rodriguez said that the meeting with the Pastors for Peace helped them to build hope that her son and his comrades will return to their homeland.

"International solidarity movement is the only thing (that is) strong enough to overcome all these obstacles and get our kids back," she said.

The activists also urged the local officials to boost the international campaign for the release of the five Cubans in a case that has long been a sore point between the two countries.

The U.S. activists arrived in Cuba on July 24 carrying 100 tons of humanitarian aid. On Monday, they attended celebrations marking the National Rebellion Day in Santa Clara City and met with former Cuban leader Fidel Castro in Havana.
