U.S. Army training civil defense workers

Instructors from the U.S. Army's Southern Command are in Panama this week helping to train workers with civil defense agency SINAPROC.

SINAPROC Director Arturo Alvarado said the instructors are teaching a course in search and rescue techniques. The course is also focusing on responses to disaster situations.

In addition to officials from SINAPROC, other agencies participating in the training include officers from the Border Patrol, the Aeronaval Service, the Institutional Protection Service and the police.

Panama and the U.S. have mutual assistance and cooperation agreements involving security, defense and anti-drug trafficking.
