COLOMBIA - Colombia Hopes to Strengthen Ties to Russia

The government invited Russian businessmen to invest in the country and promised to guarantee a favorable climate for increasing commercial exchange between both nations

Foreign Relations Minister Jaime Bermudez invited Russian businesses on Mon. to invest in Colombia and promised to offer all kinds of guarantees which would allow for the increase of commercial exchange between both countries. "Colombia will dedicate much attention to the development of advantageous relations with Russia. We welcome Russian investors to our market," Bermudez said during a gathering of businessmen from both countries at the Russian Trade and Industry Chamber (CCI). The chancellor added that the government has "done everything possible to create a favorable investment climate," in particular, by taking on guerrilla groups and drug-traffickers. Bermudez, who is preparing for an official tour of that nation, will also seek to arrange a visit of Russia by President Alvaro Uribe.
