Venezuela: Officials urge public employees to use free time to join militias
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 11:13 AM by ChangoLoa
Since the government decided to cut working hours of public employees to cope with the power crisis, government agencies have urged public employees to carry out community services during free time. Some of them have also urged public employees to join workers' militias.

Public sector sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that some government agencies have distributed application forms among workers and public employees so that they register with armed bodies supporting the government.

According to data provided recently by Orlando Castillo, the leader of the Socialist Workers' Front, there are workers' militias in the basic industries, the oil and transportation industry and the public administration.

There are 150,000 government workers in the militia, but the ruling party wants to increase the number, particularly in the public sector.

It is worthwhile mentioning that working hours of an important group of workers and employees in the public administration were cut from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in order to curb the use of electric power in the government.

1. Can't tell the difference
The interesting thing is, they're not working and we can't tell the difference. Services are just as slow, and corruption works the same.
