1. I like the comment by Boehmaya after the article. She nails it.
The article is bit too diplomatic-bureaucratic, double-speaky for my tastes. Although I applaud the effort to expose this utter bullcrap about "human rights" from the US State Department, I find myself impatient with the dissection. I've heard it all before. I heard it from LBJ. I heard it from Nixon. I heard it from Kissinger. I heard it from Reagan and his henchmen. I heard it from Bush Sr. I heard it from Bill Clinton. I heard it from Bush Jr. and his mafia. And now we're hearing it deja vu all over again. While the Latin American death squads, in our name, using our money, torture and murder tens of thousands of people, and frighten and oppress and loot everyone else, the US State Department blabbers on about "human rights" and "democracy." You'd think that bats and spiders and other creepy-crawling things would fly out of their mouths!

This is happening right now, in Colombia, on our dime. THOUSANDS of union leaders, teachers, community organizers, peasant farmers, human rights workers, journalists and others have been murdered by the Colombian military and its closely tied rightwing paramilitary death squads, funded by $6 BILLION in US military aid. And this monstrous pestilence has now been re-started in Honduras. In our name, with our money, on behalf of our global corporate predators and war profiteers.

I find it horrifying how our people get fooled, time and again, by potentially good people like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, who are willing to sell their souls to this War Beast for power and influence. I think I know how it happens. Our people are so desperately desirous of good leadership that they project their desires into people who may have started off with good intentions but who don't end up there--people--and I am especially thinking of Obama--who fool themselves as well. And I don't for a minute underestimate the probable strategy of the far rightwing nutball CEOs who own this country (and who, not incidentally, own and control the "TRADE SECRET' code in all the voting machines) of USING the unhappiness of our people with DINO leaders to 'Diebold' something worse than Bush into the White House in 2012. In fact, that's how Hitler did it, in 1932--with the fracturing of the center-left and its inability to govern.

In our case, I think we are seeing a permitted "liberal" interlude--a "harmless" period of "hope" in our leaders--that can easily and quickly deteriorate into bitter disillusion and combine with the Bushwhack looting of our economy and the Forever War to produce vast impoverishment and riots in the streets.

I think that's what these far rightwing, nutball CEOs want--the opportunity to start shooting people here as well. I think we should do everything we can to deny them that chaos, by helping to open peoples' eyes and directing them to what they can do. Me, I'll just keep plugging along trying to warn people about the voting machines (and the planned oil war in South America). I think that the voting machines are the main problem, and that transparent vote counting--vote counting we can all see and understand--is the most needed remedy--the remedy that makes all over remedies possible. We need to restore the most fundamental condition of democracy before we can do anything else.

Ever wonder why our Democratic Party leaders tolerate far righting CEOs controlling the vote count with 'TRADE SECRET' code? It's a good question to ask. The answer unlocks all the secrets, including the pervasive fear, and the endemic corruption, among our own party leaders, and the complete lack of any meaningful reform emerging from them. They are afraid of that power. They are corrupted by it. And it ties their hands if they have any inclinations toward reform.

Anyway, until we get our country back under the control of its only sovereigns--the people--we can expect yet more egregious lies from the State Department and more wars from the Pentagon.
