This is the moment a Bolivian football match turned ugly when a player launched a ferocious kung-fu style flying kick to a rival's head, knocking him unconscious.

Young starlet Sergio Jauregi attacked rival player Leonardo Medina in revenge for an earlier incident in the match when Medina elbowed him.

Following the fight a brawl broke out between the two teams Oriente Petrolero and Blooming and both players were sent off.

Flying kick player faces three-year ban
LA PAZ: Bolivian club Oriente Petrolero want Blooming opponent Sergio Jauregui to be issued a three-year suspension for kicking Oriente player Leonardo Medina in the face with a flying kick in a football match last weekend.

Richard Mendez, a director with Oriente Petrolero, said league rules called for suspensions of up to three years for such on-field violence.

“And we want the maximum penalty,” Mendez said on Tuesday.

In Sunday’s match, Medina pushed Jauregui, and Jauregui responded with a martial arts-style flying kick that struck Medina in the neck and face. Medina was treated in a hospital and is expected to be sidelined for about two weeks.

Jauregui offered a public apology afterward.

The prosecutor handling the case said Jauregui committed “criminal aggression” and said he expected to file charges. —

Forget Eric Cantona. Arguably the most despicable kung-fu kick ever seen in world football was captured on Sunday night in Bolivia as Blooming’s Sergio Jauregui savagely attacked Leonardo Medina to leave his victim needing hospital treatment.

The flare-up was sparked after Jauregui found himself lying in his own goal net after a coming together with Medina in the Blooming box in what appeared to be the result of a flailing elbow in the face.

After playing dead for a minute, and seeing that the referee was disinterested in pursuing Medina further, Jauregui unilaterally took matters into his own hands by charging over to his assailant and crashing his opponent to the floor.

But that was only the beginning.

As Medina tried to walk down the tunnel in the aftermath of the incident, Jauregui launched his most callous and heinous attack by letting fly with a kung-fu kick straight into the face of Medina. A mass brawl between the sides followed, and Jauregui was naturally shown the red card.

Reports in Bolivia also claim that criminal proceedings are now being prepared against Jauregui for his assault.
