Costa Ricans Protest Micheletti’s Visit to San Jose
HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 9 (acn) Several Costa Rican organizations repudiated the presence today in the capital San Jose of Roberto Micheletti, leader of the de facto regime in Honduras, who is taking part of a mediation process coordinated by President Oscar Arias.
Sonia Soliz, from the Frente Amplio organization, said that Micheletti is not welcomed in Costa Rica “because he is a dictator and in this country the people don’t welcome him”, Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The Peace and Justice Service, and the Center for Justice and International Law called a vigil near Oscar Arias’ house to protest protest the coup in Honduras.
The Costa Rican President’s house is the venue of the mediation, which is also being attended by a delegation from the Honduran constitutional government, headed by President Manuel Zelaya. The initiative is aimed at finding a way out of the crisis that stemmed from the June 28th military coup that broke institutional order in the Central American nation.
Despite the large police deployment, demonstrators plan to get as close as possible to the meeting place in order to condemn the human rights violations by the de facto regime headed by Micheletti.
According to information collected by humanitarian organizations, four extra judiciary executions have taken place in Honduras along with the murder of citizen Isis Obed Murillo at the Toncotin Airport on Sunday, while President Zelaya unsuccessfully attempted to return to his country.
