Replacing Brownfield as US ambassador to Colombia will reveal volumes about Obama's LatAm policy. If he doesn't, it will be business as usual.

INVITATION: Ambassador William Brownfield on US-Colombia Relations

The Inter-American Dialogue and the Brookings Institution Latin America Initiative are pleased to invite you to a discussion on the United States-Colombia relationship, featuring William Brownfield, the current U.S. ambassador to Colombia. The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 19, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Inter-American Dialogue (1211 Connecticut Avenue, Suite 510, N.W., Washington, D.C.).

Ambassador Brownfield, a career foreign service officer, has served in Bogotá since August 2007. Prior to that, he was ambassador to Venezuela and to Chile. He will offer a brief presentation on the future of U.S.-Colombian relations, including the prospects for continued aid under the Plan Colombia initiative and the pending U.S.-Colombia free trade agreement, followed by a wide-ranging exchange with participants.

We hope you will be able to join us for this important discussion. If you plan to attend, please reply to this message or send an email to meetings@thedialogue.org. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Michael Shifter

Vice President for Policy
Inter-American Dialogue Mauricio Cárdenas

Director, Latin American Initiative
The Brookings Institution
