Auction ends in 3 days ~ Hurry :)

Okay - I'm not as obsessive as this may look.
I have been selling on ebay, and was doing some research to see what has been selling.
Took a break and looked up Joe Biden. Even funnier than this is someone is selling a cookie cutter shaped like PA with the headline that Joe is from PA :P

1. I think I'd feel weird taking a bite out of a human! but that's funny
I'm glad I'm not the only one on eBay over the holidays. Been trying to do some buying and selling myself between eBay and Craigslist, and sticking some free stuff on Craigslist to get rid of it. We had a weird rush of spring weather today (damp and in the 50s) and I think I'm in spring cleaning mode. Well, probably more like still-unpacking mode, but whatever works!

2. I just sold my first item on ebay.
I posted 4 items, but only sold one. Ebay and their fees! grrrr!

I have alot more to sell but not too happy with having to owe them money to list and more money if item sells.

3. you can relist the same items and if they sell the 2nd time around
Edited on Sun Dec-28-08 06:39 PM by JoeIsOneOfUs
I think you only pay the first fee. I can't remember what happens if you list it again and it doesn't sell the 2nd time either - I'll go look.

Their instructions used to be a lot better - now they're deeply buried.

on edit - found it -
"Requirements for Insertion Fee credit
* The relisted item must end with a winning buyer. If the item doesn't sell the second time, the Insertion Fee is not refunded."

So it's worth relisting if you're pretty sure it will sell the 2nd time around.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/insertion-fee-credit.html

And I'm with you on the fees. I've ended up listing things for lower than I would like to lower the initial listing fee, and probably lost money that way. I don't know how some sellers afford to sell very cheap items - it's hardly worth it. Shipping getting more expensive has made it harder to sell on eBay too.

Is there a Craigslist in your part of AZ? I've had good luck with a few things on there, and no fees! No auction either but I don't usually have stuff that a whole bunch of people get into bidding wars over.

By the way, there's a DU group for eBay and related matters!

4. Thanks for all that info.
About 2 years ago my sister-in-law bought me a Juicy-Couture purse.
The purse is for a teenager - not me! I never returned it, never used it.
I could not believe how many Juicy-couture purses were listed! It didn't sell.
I also listed a leather jacket - again - there were hundreds listed. Very frustrating.

What sold was a vintage purse that was my mom's.

It's crazy! But I do have alot of stuff to get rid of, so I may have to checkout Craigslist.

5. yeah, it's hard to sell common stuff. another thing that might help...
is to search by completed items so you can see what stuff sold for (or didn't sell at a given starting price). If you click the button for advanced search, there's a check box for "show completed items". Helps me make a guess on a starting price when I have no idea, or helps me decide it's not worth it to list something I won't get much for.

6. Haha - that's exactly what I was doing when I took a break a found
the edible Joe cake topper.

It has really given me an idea what to sell and what not to bother selling.
Very time consuming!
