You guys see this in WaPO: O/B campaign vows to fight back
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 11:32 AM by 48percenter
Advisers to Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama say they will "respond with speed and ferocity" to attacks from the Republican ticket, with Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.), the vice presidential nominee, leading the charge.

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said Friday in an e-mail to reporters that Republican nominee John McCain "has shown that he is willing to go into the gutter to win this election. His campaign has become nothing but a series of smears, lies, and cynical attempts to distract from the issues. . . . We will not allow John McCain and his band of Karl Rove disciples to make this big election about small things."

"Senator Biden will be integral to that effort," the Plouffe e-mail continues, "both in pushing back on the lies that we'll continue to see from our opponents, and in keeping the debate focused on delivering for everyday Americans."

1. I'm listening to Obama LIVE right now, and he's addressing this issue in
response to a question from the audience.

He said we're going to fight back with the truth.

And as he's talking, someone obviously shouted "lies" from the audience. He goes "Lies -- that's the word I was looking for." :7

Quoted someone : If you don't stop lying about me, I'm going to have to start telling the truth about you. (That would be a great ad, IMO)

I go back and forth on this issue. There's valid argument for both sides. It'll be a tough balance though as to fighting back without coming across as vindictive, thereby inviting rage and MEDIA COVERAGE. (Time waster)

It is almost suffocating how the RW is able to get away with this shit, yet Obama makes a statement about McCAIN'S POLICY, and all of a sudden he's attacking Palin. WTF?

But that's the reality of what we're facing, and that's what we need to counter. As the old Seahawks coach Chuck Knox used to say (every damn week), you gotta play the cards you're dealt.

So I'm glad to see they're shifting their approach. Thanks for this! :hi:

2. Yes, and I predict this will cost them the election.

If Obama wants to take the steam out of the mccrap campaign, this is not the way to do it. He needs to hold a presser, everyday if needed, and address all of mccraps lies. That will get press, and he stays above the fray.

I am in no way for Obama attacking mccrap, because then it will be the "angry black man" issue.

Stupid move if you ask me. If I'm proven wrong, then I'll eat a bug, but I feel it in my gut, this is a bad move.

3. Well the first ad I've seen -- about McCain's lobbyists -- is a jabber, but
it's about McCain's BS. It's not a personal attack and does NOT come across as an angry black man (which I admit, is a concern if we were to take it too far.) It may not quench the thirst of those calling for blood, but I think it was very effective and was JUST RIGHT (a la Goldilocks). Have you seen it yet?

I LOVE the idea of a daily presser! Every day, kind of like Letterman's Top Ten List - cite the lies, provide the truth.

5. Yes, that is a perfect ad...
that's the way it should stay. Just the facts, and issues...nothing "gossipy". I still think the daily presser is the best way though. It puts Obama on TV everyday, and it's something that would get a lot of airtime. If he just went out there and said; John said this"; the facts is; John said this; the fact is; .....that would be forthright, and honest, and people would see that as CHANGE. Which Obama has promised. I think if he goes too negative, then he negates everything he has said so far, and people will just say; "he's just like all of the other politicians", and it may turn people away from him.

I think the biggest mistake people who are second guessing him is, comparing this to 2000, and 2004. But remember, we have had 8 years of shit. People are much different than they were 8 years ago, and their frame of mind is different. This year, in my opinion, should not be compared to ANY other in ANY past election.
