Would Biden serve at the pleasure of the President?
Given the talk about him serving as VP or Sec. of State, would he be more effective in either of those roles than in the Senate? I could see the argument for Sec. of State, but would he be able to relinquish final decision to Obama, Hillary, or Edwards? To be effective as VP, it will depend entirely on how much the president would want to delegate and let the VP into the loop.

I'm inclined to believe that he should stay in the senate and serve in spite of whoever ends up being the president. I'm not saying he should actively oppose who ever the nominee is, just that in the senate he could better keep any of them on the straight and narrow. We all know that any president's job can, and usually does, get made more difficult because of Congress. Wouldn't Joe's leadership be more valuable to give the president advice and consent, but also be in the position to hold them accountable for what our country really needs?

1. I'm in agreement with you, mud. He won't have to be speaking FOR the President
== but as the CHairman of the SFRC. I think it gives him much more latitude, and would be in keeping with his personality. Even a GOOD SOS, like Colin Powell, had to toe the admin's line. But being the SOS does carry a lot of cachet, so.... :shrug:

2. I agree;
keep him in the Senate, where he can be useful to Pres. who needs joe's expertise AND can also have knowledgeable cabinet folks.

Someone's GOT to have Wes Clark somewhere; the world needs benefit of both of these guy's expertise.

3. as FRC Chairman,
Joe will still have an effect on State Dept. affairs, and foreign leaders will continue to call on him.

IMO As, Sec.of State or as the V.P. Joe won't be able to do what he does best....write and get meaningful legislation and resolutions passed like he has for many years. And if HRC is elected, I'm not so sure that VP Biden would be too keen on having to deal with Big Dog's influences.

I'll still be voting for Joe in my DE. primary, but I want him to remain my Senator.

4. What Joe said
"Whoever the next president of the United States is, they're going to have to spend a fair amount of time with me," Biden said.

I think he's planning on staying where he's at and holding the next president accountable.

he makes a decision, but we have time. We don't even know who the nom will be yet.
