PayPal?
So there is no way to know if a credit card purchase is legit when selling using PayPal?

See this thread of mine:

1. I figured it out
PayPal told me that the credit card is legit that he used.
However, his shipping address is "unconfirmed".

The problem is:
I ship the product and if he could claims that he did not recieve the $1220 item he could activate a PayPal "chargeback" to recoup the funds.

Without a confirmed shipping address I have no recourse.
PayPal would debit my account $1220, give him the money, and I would have no way to prove I sent the product to him.

I wrote and told him I will refund his PayPal payment and accept a Cashier's Check.
When it clears I will ship the product.

Lesson learned...fortunately beforehand so nothing bad happened.

2. some sellers won't sell to an unconfirmed address
I guess that's why. Most of my items are for much less $$, so I don't worry too much about losing a bid.

6. It pays to use delivery confirmation.
Both buyer and seller know the package was mailed and received. I print most of my shipping labels within PayPal, so delivery confirmation is free.

3. Most of the time I send to unconfirmed addresses,
but once I had a high-priced item headed for Japan and decided not to take the chance. The buyer was kind of annoyed, but sent payment another way so I had cash in hand before sending the purchase.

4. You can set your PayPal...

...to NOT accept unconfirmed addresses.

I am thinking on higher priced items to just go with the Cashier's Check anyway and avoid the PayPal fees.
They charged me 36 bucks for this $1220 transaction and I am going to refund it so I will probably get charged again somehow.

5. Most of the time the unconfirmed address thing is just because
the user hasn't gotten around to giving PayPal the info needed to confirm it. After I moved my address was unconfirmed for awhile even though I had great feedback. I'm not overly concerned about it, but if I get a bad vibe I'll ask for another form of payment.
