A question and a brag on silver plate - Question first:
Any information on a pitcher - I think of it as an iced tea or lemonaide pitcher because it has a bar across the pouring spout (to stop ice) and it is open top, a very classic alnost deco design. It is heavy, marked on the bottom Lancaster - Silver over Copper.

Brag- I just bought a Wm Rogers silver plate meat tray, the tree of life design with 4 feet and a gadroon edge for $2.45 in a Salvation Army store....Saved again! Just polished it, and it looks fantastic.(Pat self on back.)

1. Per Dorothy Rainwater,Encyclopedia of American Silver Mfgrs.
Lancaster Silver Plate Co.
Lancaster PA.

"The Lancaster Silver Plate Company was destroyed by fire September 1893. Deco would definitely make it later.

I've seen the type of pitcher you describe and that design(in my mind) seems much later than 1893. Perhaps another Lancaster rose from the ashes. Firms like Gorham and International bought out companies and designs all the time.

The Rainwater book is a great reference for history and marks.

Good for you, much too nasty to go out hunting around these parts. Can't wait 'til spring.
