Bike colors
I'm starting to shop for a used bike. Keeping an eye on Craigslist and other sources.
I'm looking for something in the 600-750 cc range and I may be imagining a pattern but what I see advertised in colors other than black is often described as 'my wife's bike' or 'female-owned.'

So my question is, in normal motorcycle culture, are bikes in non-black colors assumed to be women's rides?

I'm moving up to a regular motorcycle from a Honda Reflex to assert my rapidly waning masculinity while there's still time and frankly I don't have a lot of room for error so I don't want to make a real obvious (to others) mistake.

Any advice?

1. Driven to church on Sundays by a little old lady
I think the words are meant to imply the bike was driven "gently", if at all. Ladies, after all, do not crash their vehicles, or allow them to drip oil on the driveway, or to get dirty in any way. But wait, there's more! Buy right away, and we'll toss in a free bridge.

Generally, the color doesn't matter, if you can pronounce it. Avoid bikes that are painted "mauve" or "taupe", whatever they are. Those are not manly colors.

:hi:

4. Its because you're looking at 600~700cc bikes - girlie motorcycles
Hate to say it that way, but its a common mistake to think that a smaller bike is a ladies bike, or that somehow a ladie requires a smaller bike.

7. I agree. As a biker, you should say "screw you" to anyone who doesn't like the color you pick out.

9. Still working on it. I almost bought a 2001 VLX.
But I had some storm issues the day I was going to make an offer and had to put it off. Missed out on it.

10. I just bought this...

Low mileage, well-kept 1994 Suzuki Intruder 800. I am so glad I bought this bike. I also like the color. Get what you want and then ride it.

13. No way in hell, dude. Every color of the rainbow out there, for
guys and gals. That Harley crap about a "real bike" is nothing but bigoted crap. A real bike is performance, and your 600 to 750 range is performance way above and beyond what any Harley can do.
Just get your leathers or textiles and pants and boots and helmet to match or contrast with your bike colors. No clash of color is good. Balance your colors.

14. Well, I bought a purple one! :-)
Honda Shadow 600. Very purple but mostly a lot of chrome.
Now if it would just stay freakin' dry in Chicago for a day, I'd actually ride it!
