Hey, IDemo, here's your modulator how-to!
This is what the JC Whitney modulator looks like:

and here's the Radio Shack switch I chose:

The switch is a single pole single throw (simple on/off) with an LED indicator. I chose not to use the LED so there's an empty connector in the installation.
I used 18 gage wire to make this harness:

I used color coding to make sure I didn't reverse the wiring on the modulator. That fries the unit.
Here's what the whole unit looks like before installing on the bike:

Inside the headlight nacelle find the high beam wire and cut it; it's the yellow one.

Feed the new harness into the headlight housing and splice it into the high beam circuit.

Finally, just tuck the modulator into the opening behind the trim piece and re-install the trim. Pretty neat installation if I do say so myself.

1. Nice job, great pictures too
Sounds like a good idea, and not too difficult a job. I saw a BMW with one of these a while ago and they definitely get your attention. You may want to post your pictures over on the "member's mods" page at Alternative Cruisers-> http://www.alternativecruisers.com/index.php?page=20

I dropped off the bike tonight at the dealer to have the carbs looked at. I did the AIS bypass procedure to try to lessen the backfiring, but it seems to have increased it if anything. The crew at Alternative Cruiser seems to believe that backing out the pilot screw in the carbs will get rid of the backfiring and make it run better between idle and 1/4 throttle. The bike also didn't get much use by the previous owner and may have some crud build-up in the jets.
