German Glass Glitter
Does anyone have a good source for German glass glitter? I saw a nice selection at "Splinters and Rags" web store but never bought from them before.

And do you have any experiences to share about using it?

I'd like to get some to make myself some of those little Putz style cardboard houses our family had when I was little. They've become popular again. Next winter I'll have a mantle in the living room, even if we don't have a fireplace. And I want to decorate it with these houses.

Here's what they look like for those who may not have seen them. Scroll down to mid page.

The ones we had weren't as detailed. Just solid colored houses with white snow roofs. Should be easy enough.

1. You might want to check out this site

I found this site via Martha Stewart.

They have a wide selection of glitter, including glass, which is what I intend to buy if I can only decide upon the colors. Each time I go there, I'm like a kid at the candy store whose eyes are bigger than her stomach - and budget! I want all the pretty colors and textures!

If you haven't yet found your glitter, I hope this might help you.

I'm going over there now and choose the colors for those Christmas ornaments and garland I plan to make.

:)

2. What a great idea!
I just took a look at your link and the cardboard houses. I remember them! We had them in our family too. We had to handle them delicately because they were very old.

Have you started making them yet? I'm interested in your ideas if you have. I'd like to try my hand at it too. I'm looking at those USPS Priority One mailing boxes sitting over there on the shelf. I think they'd work very well, though, I've been saving them for stars, bells and whathaveyous for the tree & fireplace mantle.

About a year ago, I thought about trying to make a village by doing it with some form of paper mache. But now you've inspired the memories of those little houses. I'm curious if you've started a project.

:)

3. Thanks for the link!
I haven't started the houses yet. We're having some work done around our place and a lot of my craft supplies seem scattered.

I saved a few patterns of houses from around the net. Gingerbread house templates would work well. I plan on laying out the pattern pieces so that I can cut the walls out of one piece, score and fold so only one edge needs to be taped shut. The houses we had were fragile, too. They weren't fancy either. So it should be easy to replicate them. I'm thinking of using that lightweight cardboard that's in the men's shirt packaging.

I know what you mean about all those colors and sizes of the glitter. I thought I only wanted white and silver. Then my eyes got big, too! Won't you please post when you get started and I'll do the same. I want to look for some more house patterns and will save the urls, too.
