James was asked to sign an open letter, written by Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Ira Newble, condemning China's government for contributing to the genocide of people in the Darfur region of Sudan.

"China cannot be a legitimate host to the premier international event in the sporting world - the Summer Olympic Games - while it remains complicit in the terrible suffering and destruction that continues to this day," Newble wrote.

Newble's letter was signed by most of the Cavalier players, but not James, who said he didn't have enough information about the issue, or Damon Jones, who refused comment.

Then someone who called himself Shane posted this: "Americans can't be bothered standing up for their country, their soldiers or the constitution. Why would we expect some athlete, no doubt with a neocon agent and manager telling him what to do, to stand up for people with no money who will never buy the shoes he hawks."

I can't imagine how unaware and isolated you need to be to not have an idea of what is going on in Darfur.

You know, if I were a coach, I'd require my players to be subscribed to the local newspaper. They might see a headline while recycling it.

5. James answer is the correct one
Too many people "just do it" while not knowing jack shit about what they are doing.

Now, this doesn't mean that James shouldn't attempt to educate himself about the situation, but barring knowledge, he is perfectly right not to sign the petition.

6. I agree
Obviously the easy thing to do would be just to sign it, particularly if all of his teamates did.

8. I'm not sure I believe him
As the article states he has fairly large business interests in China through Nike.

Jones who refused to comment is set to endorse products from a Chinese shoe and apparel company.

I'm skeptical of the motivations of both men.

7. I dispute this:
"As is the case with most star athletes these days, they should be admired for their actions on the court, not off it."

I'm one of those people who doesn't give a shit what he does on the court. For me, it's about his values, not his physical prowess.

9. James has about 90 million reasons not to sign
or 'become educated' about this.

4 Letters spells it out: Nike

10. James is apparently very tight with Warren Buffet and is advised by him
Warren Buffet is (I believe) the second richest man in the world. I would bet there are financial interests involved. What an unlikely duo, huh??

12. Nor I, but I watched a half time report about it during the game.
There was an interview with both of them and Buffet said he was advising James and felt the student would turn out better than the teacher. Showed both of them playing a game of horse together. It was very interesting to say the least. James will become a household name every bit as much as Michael Jorden has I believe.
