I am the NightWatcher, and according to Alabama, I am a terrorist
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Alabama_government_site_classifies_environmental_activists_0527.html

How funny is it that Alabama has a homeland security department?

<snip>
The Alabama Department of Homeland Security has taken down a webpage that listed environmental, anti-war, and gay rights groups as possible terrorists, according to a report from the Associated Press.

"The director of the department, Jim Walker, said his agency received a number of calls and e-mails from people who said they felt the site unfairly targeted certain people just because of their beliefs," the AP reported. "He said he plans to put the Web site back on the Internet, but will no longer identify specific types of groups."

The site described the various groups as "single-issue terrorists" who include "people who feel they are trying to create a better world."

<snip>

According to Alabama (:rofl:) I am what is considered a "single issue" terrorist. There I go trying to "create a better world".

What I find truly funny is: 1. Alabama has a homeland security department, 2. the shameful people at ADHS felt pressure to remove the site that classified "environmental, anti-war, ...." as possible terrorists.

I guess we have got a long way to come in the view of governments like Alabama's, but it is good for me that I live in the progressive state of.....Georgia.

(Thanks for letting me rant a bit, and be sure to toss me a rec if states like Alabama would find you to be a "possible terrorist" too)

Once you've got "domestic terrorism", anyone can be a terrorist.

14. Not funny. It is the insipid creep of fascism strangling our democracy.
Tomorrow -- maybe your right to leave the state will be revoked -- threat that you are.

15. I'm not laughing, but I'm also not cowering
I used to have a security clearance and if "they" wanted to come get me they'd be able to with little trouble.

I am tired of fearing the state. I am tired of the almighty state. I am who I am and I refuse to live in fear of them.

19. I'm a bit confused -
I read the article twice but I'm not sure if I understand what's going on.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

You had a website. On that website you listed some groups such as environmental groups as terrorist organizations. The ADHS took your website down.

Was your site like the Onion, using hyperboly to make a humoristic statement? Or was your site serious, like, you really thought they were terrorists (and hence may be encouraging others to cause them harm)?

That's where I'm confused. If your site was advocating violence against these groups the I could understand why it should have been taken down (free speech doesn't necessarily protect dangerous speech). But if it was a joke, then maybe the ADHS should have done a little more research before taking the drastic action of taking your site down.

Could you clarify? (I'm assuming it was a comedy site).

20. I just found the cached pages in question, and it does read like an Onion article.
Here is the cached link: http://web.archive.org/web/20060516040544/www.homelandsecurity.alabama.gov/tap/singleissue.htm

I have to laugh at the last part, "single interest groups" which concludes "And homosexual rights groups" when before all the groups listed were "anti-dis dat and da other ting". One wonders if there is a riot about to erupt at The Quest in Birmingham spilling out onto the streets and a rout of the police to occur any night now?

"3000 angry patrons miffed when the DJ played one too many techno songs and no Hi NRG, set fire to after hours club, 3 drag queens successfully extinguish fire, mayhem spills onto streets of Southside. City in state of emergency."

Or else: "Mobile woman complains that her rice has been genetically mutated, throws bag at manager, Feds throw book at her at local Piggly Wiggly."

This shit is too funny to make up, but it seems that the ADHS was flooded with so much email and phone calls that they dumped it asap! What is even funnier is that it appears to have been stolen from Pennsylvania's DHS!

What a waste of bandwidth. . .

As an Alabamian I had no idea we had a Dept. of Homeland Security, I guess Roy Moore thinks the trrrsts will come to take away his Ten Commandments statue.
