WHAS11 has a warning for military families about a possible scam.
The Red Cross says someone posing as a Red Cross official has been calling military families and telling them that a relative has been seriously injured in Iraq.
The caller says the family has to provide the soldier's social security number and date of birth.
But the Red Cross says you should be aware that sort of information wouldn't come from them, and the caller is making it up.
"The American Red Cross is not the notifier if a serviceman is injured or killed,” says Patricia Elliot of the American Red Cross. “That information is delivered by a military officer."
A military wife in North Carolina alerted the Red Cross to the scam when someone tried to pull it on her.
