I know this has been asked before but what is with the shut down problem in IE
I am using the latest version of IE and this site, but only this site, causes it to have an error message and shut down quite often. Today has been a nightmare with repeated shutdowns. Truthfully I don't really wish to switch browsers but this is getting a little old.

16. Why Not? Could you please explain? I've been using Firefox for
for three months after my old computer crashed and I LOVE IT! I'm not particularly "Computer Savvy" but I have less Spyware/Adware and NO CRASHES since I started using it.

And..I was a Netscape 7.1 Diehart who thought I'd die when my Computer crashed and always figured I'd stick with Netscape since I was an ORIGINAL USER since 1996 (young for some of the DU Techies) but old for those of us NEW to Win'95 which allowed the NEWBIES to get online and SURF for the first time with "little knowledge" of the old "system."

Anyway...DU'ers clued me into FIRFOX and THUNDERBIRD...and I've NOT LOOKED BACK. Granted I came to them from WinME which everyone in the Techie World loathed and derided. I managed to work around the WinME crashes (constant) and glitches for about five years. (I have the patience of a Saint) but after that I'd had ENOUGH!

Firefox is CLEAN and so is Thunderbird. I'm all over the Intenet searching for our Home Business (I Research on Project for Fee) and I've not had ANY of the problems I had with '95 and Win ME. And not CRASHED YET?

What was YOUR PROBLEM?

4. I was reluctant to switch too.
I hate having to re-learn what I already know how to do. But I finally got fed up with the problems IE was giving me, and very reluctantly switched to Firefox. I found it's really not very different, in terms of the appearance and useage, and hasn't given me any problems. Haven't looked back since.

5. My monitor makes an annoying humming sound when I view DU's forums.
Only site that it happens on = conspiracy.

Yeah, that's probably not helpful , but I have to agree with those who have and will say "use firefox" for this reason:

Question: "What is with the <...> problem in IE"
Answer: It's IE.

7. Try adding DU to its Restricted Sites zone
Tools --> Internet Options --> Security --> Restricted Sites --> Sites --> Add

That'll kill Javascript and ActiveX for DU, which might be the cause. You'll know if you try it.

8. It's your "Flash Player" (Corrupted) I see it all the time (as a Tech)
Uninstall it and then go to macromedia.com and reinstall it

I just reinstalled Flash Player. We'll see how it goes.

Interesting that it happens both here and at work...

17. it happens every time there is a donation drive.
for some reason, the donation animation at the top is the most suspect, IMHO.

by that I mean the most likely culprit for the shutdowns.

12. maybe you can tell me how to solve another IE problem
My cat walks on my keyboard at night, and I think he did something when the computer was on that makes it so I can only open one IE window at a time, and the IE icon is gone from my desktop. To get into IE, I have to go to task manager and type in the URL for the site I want in the window.

Any ideas?

15. Look in your recycle bin
Kitty may have deleted your IE. Mine do it all the time. Oddly, they never delete my Firefox icon. :)

19. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Flash Player.
No good. I-explorer is still really unstable at this site.

I'm trying FireFox. Seems better....
