Cheney"Al-Qaida's leadership has said
Al-Qaida's leadership has said they have the right to kill 4 million Americans, 2 million of them children, and to exile twice as many and to wound and cripple thousands," Cheney told graduates in a commencement speech at the U.S. Military Academy.

Where will they be exiled to? This is just plain crazy talk.

1. At first I thought that read:
Cheney=Al-Qaida's leadership

which I would have disagreed with.

He's more like their public relations guy.

2. They've also said...
that the war in Iraq will rob us of our treasures and allow them to kill more Americans. Didn't mention that did he?

5. I wonder if the graduates from West Point are delusional too
I fear some of them are.

U.S. Army Invites Sutherland to Give Anti-Torture Speech

Gary Solis, a retired law professor who designed and taught the Law of War for Commanders curriculum at West Point, told me that he had similar arguments with his students. He said that, under both U.S. and international law, “Jack Bauer is a criminal. In real life, he would be prosecuted.” Yet the motto of many of his students was identical to Jack Bauer’s: “Whatever it takes.” His students were particularly impressed by a scene in which Bauer barges into a room where a stubborn suspect is being held, shoots him in one leg, and threatens to shoot the other if he doesn’t talk. In less than ten seconds, the suspect reveals that his associates plan to assassinate the Secretary of Defense. Solis told me, “I tried to impress on them that this technique would open the wrong doors, but it was like trying to stomp out an anthill.”

So it seems to me Cheney was giving a "24" type speech at West Point with those words.

11. Movies are NOT real life
Jack Bauer is also a FOOL, using a technique that is well established to NOT WORK. It serves the function of terrorism perfectly well, but does little or nothing to extract accurate information.

And we seem to conveniently forget that historically, this is usually done to the wrong person. They will, of course, say whatever they imagine the torturer wants to hear, thereby implicating another bunch of innocents, who can then be tortured, with an ever-expanding circle of the same results.

And for that matter, even if you get the RIGHT guy, if he takes his battle seriously, he will give you believable but wrong information, so as to waste more of your time and resources.

8. Al-Qaeda's leader also said:
"That being said, those who say that al-Qaida has won against the administration in the White House or that the administration has lost in this war have not been precise, because when one scrutinises the results, one cannot say that al-Qaida is the sole factor in achieving those spectacular gains.

Rather, the policy of the White House that demands the opening of war fronts to keep busy their various corporations - whether they be working in the field of arms or oil or reconstruction - has helped al-Qaida to achieve these enormous results.

And so it has appeared to some analysts and diplomats that the White House and us are playing as one team towards the economic goals of the United States, even if the intentions differ."

(BTW the full transcript of bin Laden's '04 "October surprise" videotape were only on the alJazeera site but even that has now been scrubbed, however it's still available in the Google cache).
