Palast: Congress won’t do squat
This is unbelievable.

GP: The blondeling underling of the Police State. The lady was trying to tell us something important, but the dim bulbs of the U.S. press and the committee dolts wouldn’t listen. She began by accusing her bosses of perjury. The issue was her allegation that they knew all about “caging.” And no one asked her one damn question about it. Like what is “caging” and why would they commit perjury to cover it up?

JD: Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) asked, and Goodling said, “It has to do with direct mail.”

JD: Well, it is a direct mail term, but it’s also a voter supression term. Do no senators know that, not even Committee Chair John Conyers?

GP: Conyers knows — and he knows me. He’s keeping his powder dry. The others are clueless.

JD: My mind goes back to Conyers. What did you mean earlier by “keeping his powder dry?”

GP: We talk. ‘Nuff said.

JD: So is Congress eventually going to get to all this? Is that the end game with the Justice Department investigation?

GP: No, Congress won’t do squat. Did anyone do anything about the felon purge? It went backwards: Bush signed the Help America Vote Act. God forbid.

Ken, from our conversation about turnout and voter groups, I'd like to put the following quote on the record. It has to do with undecided voters.

Claiming that undecided voters are more conservative than liberal, older and tend to go to church more regularly, Bush-Cheney campaign manager Ken Mehlman said, "I have not thought this group is a group inherently for Kerry."

Thanks,
Dan

2. I disagree with Palast saying 'Nuff said.' I think he should be saying much more.
I don't understand why he is being so, you'll excuse the expression, cagey. First he implies that Conyers is going to do something about his (Palast's) supposedly explosive discovery, then he contemptuously says Congress won't do squat. What is Palast's game here?

7. "Caging Monica." OR, "How a Grant of Immunity Works."
Has anyone considered the possibility that there was a concerted effort to limit what Goodling discussed because of the grant of immunity. Anything that she was asked about became immune to prosecution. Anything not discussed remains prosecutable, right??.

Goodling wasn't given a Nixon-style pardon, a "you are pardoned for everything unspeakable you did, even if you shot Kennedy yourself, you are pardoned" pardon.

as there are a couple of emails titled: caging Those emails have actual excel files with thousands of voters names.

Maybe you shouldn't just take kos' word for it and do some research yourself.

13. That's Palast's contention. I want to hear him explain why he said it.
I like the reporting he's done in the past but he's being too cryptic here. If he doesn't want to be suspected of grandstanding in order to sell his new book, he's got to be less mysterious and wa-a-ay more forthcoming.

20. Okay. You explain to us what he meant then. If you can't, perhaps that's because
he's not saying enough, to answer the natural questions that arise in our minds. Either he has the goods or he doesn't, and he's either passed them on to John Conyers or he hasn't. He should stop being coy.

I'm getting the impression of a guy who claims that he's holding a briefcase with a million dollars, but he's only flashing you a quick look inside.

I don't know what is going on between him and Conyers and maybe at this point he isn't at liberty to say. I just know Palast was absolutely right about the purge in FL and he had the goods. I have no reason to disbelieve him now.

I'm sure he is holding something back for his book. That's reasonable I think.

on the squat doing, the powder dry forever thing. IF the American people ever found out that the congress knows and covers up much of this shit-trust me-they would want ever last one of them out of there forever. And the "Representatives" know this. Basically the government exists for itself by itself. We had been warned all my life we were becoming the second Roman empire. Is their any doubt now? We have Gore saying it's not even a Democracy anymore..why do I have to pretend?????

I've had it with lies. Bush is not the legally elected president of this country. And those people in congress DO NOT represent me or the constitution. All the represent is themselves. Bannna republic.

25. I have to say I agree with you....
If I can read Palast's book and see the evidence of voter purging then why can't members of Congress? Goodling was telling them about caging and they ignored it. We have actual caging emails with lists and nobody is investigating? Is it because they just take turns? Democrats get 8 years of Clinton so republicans get 8 years of bush? Is that how it works?

28. Well, if anyone would know - it would be GP.
And I think Congress has already shown us how little they care about the military. I expected nothing when the Dems won, I was rooting like hell for change - but doubted anything would.

People still believe Iraq caused 911. People can't find Iraq on a map or Iran or Afghanistan. OBL will NEVER be caught, Bush has made that obvious. We could have killed Saddam under Poppy Bush, his excution just fired up the local popluace.

Peace? Not shooting for peace - more money, more power, that IS Congress. Shitbags one and all (almost).

Read his blog *before* the '06 elections, and now.

All the difference in the world... like 180.

I never thought Conyers would be bought off, so I have no false hope anymore.
