I looked out the kitchen window early Saturday afternoon and what should I spy but a black stretch limo pulling up on the street behind us. My husband comes in to look too. This is positively ABNORMAL for this area. We live in a mobile home development. We're all lower to middle class working families here.
We're wondering if the Queen is coming for tea as the limo door opens...and out steps a family unit -- mom, dad, three kids -- all wearing shorts and t-shirts except for the mom who's wearing a tight black top (really, she shouldn't have). Dad is sporting suspenders and a baseball cap.
They're going to a BBQ.
The driver parks up, walks the mile to the trunk and opens it to remove some food items they've brought.
I think I've seen everything -- until I go shopping an hour later. As I'm coming out, a stretch HUMMER pulls into the parking lot. I freeze and literally SNEER at this monstrosity. The driver, dressed in a smart black suit, leaves the behemoth idling at the curb while waiting for his passengers. What's it get, I wonder: 2 mpg? And what's it doing here, at a supermarket?
All is answered when a woman with a young son approaches it with a couple of bags of groceries. The driver jogs the mile and a half to the back and helps her put them in. Let's just say he was NOT her husband.
I'm appalled. People are completely out of touch. How many kids have died in Iraq this week alone, protecting Bush**'s oil? Never mind I would not like to hear the thoughts of any soldier if they could magically see these scenes from the hellhole they're living in right now. Sacrifice? War footing?
However, on a bright note, as I finished shopping and was about to go, a young woman checking out nearby ran over and asked where I'd got my shopping bags. If you click on the picture you'll find the answer. They ship internationally. :)
