CHENEY Has The Nerve To - Criticize The Geneva Convention In Military Academy Commencement Address
Cheney criticizes the Geneva Convention in Military Academy commencement address
Michael Roston
Published: Saturday May 26, 2007

Vice President Dick Cheney criticized the notion of applying the Geneva Convention to individuals captured in the course of the war on terrorism in a Saturday commencement address at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.

"Capture one of these killers, and he'll be quick to demand the protections of the Geneva Convention and the Constitution of the United States," the Vice President said in the Saturday morning speech. "Yet when they wage attacks or take captives, their delicate sensibilities seem to fall away."

Cheney delivered the remarks in the context of moral and ethical lessons that the graduating cadets at West Point had learned in the course of their study.

2. Too bad those graduates do not have the - whatever it takes- that the grads at U of Mass had when
Andy card tried to speak there.

It would have been so heartwarming to have seen on the news that bunches of West Point grads protested...and walked out of the speech.

No such thing would ever happen there. Discipline Discipline Discipline

23. Five Deferrments and he acts like he knows what he's talking about!
Why is he still there? Why have the Powers that Be not removed him? Oh...I forgot...he's very good for the "PTB." Obviously ...or he and his puppet would have been long gone...like whatever was good about the Country we "thought" we lived in.

7. I don't see him criticizing Geneva Conventions in that statement..
I read the whole story when this was posted earlier, but nothing he said is actually critical of the Geneva Conventions. He is simply saying that the terrorists would demand their rights under the conventions.

I realize that the Big Dick has no regard for the conventions, but you couldn't deduce that from his statement. I hate his fucking guts and I think he is the worst human(?) on the planet, but I don't see how the headline fits the story.

8. Mr. Vice-President, there is a word for such people. Criminals.
They disobey the law. Perhaps you are familiar with the concept? They disregard the law, and that is why they are criminals. Not inhumans. Criminals.

12. And what about the ones you capture who aren't killers, Dick?
You take away their rights too. Everyone's equally guilty in your eyes. So let's apply the same to you then. Let's haul your fat ass to the Hague and convict you of high crimes and treason and sentence you without counsel or a hearing. Bet you'll cry about your rights. Too fucking bad.

18. Ahh yes
Apparently Mr. Cheney comes from the school of Two Wrongs Make A Right.

Well, Dick...then perhaps you'll understand why we just sat there and let you jump off that bridge with your little friends. Who knows, with your extra padding, maybe you'll bounce.

20. Jesus
Didn't a general who is an instructor at West Point just have to go to the producers of "24" and ask them to tone down their toruture scenes and other abuses of law including the Geneva Conventions? Now dick-for-brains goes to the graduating class and in essence gives them a wink and a nod to ignore the rule of law and the Geneva Conventions?

He is a mad-man.

21. Okay, to study the morality of it, do a little word switch:
"Capture one of these West Point Grads, and he'll be quick to demand the protections of the Geneva Convention and the Constitution of the United States," the Vice President said in the Saturday morning speech.

Yeah, it can work the other way too, VP 5 Deferment. That's why soldiers follow rules.

I wonder if the grads were muttering "bullshit" under their breaths.
